i'm not sure about this at all but i remember a while ago i realised there was a 
driver missing that allowed dv cams to be controled via the transport controls 
of kino  - i think i made a ticket on the wiki about it and then the lib was 
added - this is the only change in dv stuff i can think of between leek and 
potato and carrot and corriander.... i cant remember the lib name though :(
maybe not relevant... just a a thought - if you think it might be relavent you 
could google thinks like 

dv transport controls not working in kino

or search the wiki for stuff to do with kino

why not use carrot and corriander for the installation?
